Frost Dimension

The first picture of the frost dimension, after the grass texture was fixed.

The frost dimension is a new dimension that is accessible by a portal from the overworld. It houses several hostile entities, such as the ice phantom, the icy creeper and the frost dragon. The generation is similar to the overworld.

It is heard that there might be villagers in this dimension, which would be called "Eskimos". There might be more entities than the ones listed, but for now, that's all that's there. Upon going to this dimension, you will get an achievement.

MCE tweeted out a GIF of him going to the frost dimension. [1]

Environment[edit | edit source]

The generation is similar to the overworld. With grass on top, dirt then stone. No ores spawn in this dimension. In a certain biome, there is a tree that generates. Instead of oceans, ponds and rivers of water and pools of lava, it generates liquid nitrogen. This is the only source of getting liquid nitrogen in the mod.

The sun and moon are normal, and the sky is a lighter blue. Anytime it rains, it is changed to snow. It was also talked about from the developers that it would always be snowing, or blizzard. But this was ultimately decided not to have this.

Upon going into this dimension, you do not get any effects of cold and freezing without wearing protective gear, though it has been talked about from the developers. It is still not known if this will be added.

Blocks[edit | edit source]

The types of blocks that generate in this dimension are as follow.

Naturally Generated[edit | edit source]

Naturally generated blocks includes those that are created through the world seed.

Naturally Created[edit | edit source]

Naturally created blocks are created through a combination of events that lead these blocks to be placed by natural causes, not by the player.

Mobs[edit | edit source]

Only a few mobs spawn in this dimension, but there might be more later on.

Icy Creeper Face.png Icy Creepers; similar to the normal creeper, just slightly smaller, still explodes. It's explosion is also smaller than the normal creeper. With a similar texture, just tinted blue, they make the same hiss sound.

Ice Phantom Face.png Ice Phantoms; also could be called ice wraiths, these were based off of the ice wraith from skyrim. Flying around like blazes, they are extremely fast. With the same health as the player. They also have a smoke effect like the blaze, but it is blue colored particles. Once killed can drop ice blocks or ice shard, which can be used to train ice phantoms. Then, they become loyal like a dog and will sit, eat and protect you.

Unknown.png Frost Dragon, similar to the enderdragon, but tinted blue and can actually land and not destroy blocks, it is the boss of the dimension. Unknown of what it drops, but has been talked about that you could train it somehow.

Unknown.png Eskimos, similar to the villager, they will trade with stuff from the dimension. Though not entirely official that they will be in the mod, it has been talked about from the developers a bit.

File Save Location[edit | edit source]

The frost dimension is saved in the same way normal worlds are, in the following locations by default:

Windows:

%appdata%\.minecraft\saves\worldname\IDT-DIM5

Mac:

~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/saves/worldname/IDT-DIM5

Note: This Library folder is not the one in Macintosh HD, but the one inside your home folder. The only way to access this is to go to the Go menu, and select Go To..., and type ~/Library.

Linux:

~/.minecraft/saves/worldname/IDT-DIM5

On all systems, be sure to replace "worldname" with the name of your world.

Note that IDT-DIM-5 does not contain its own level.dat, as the same level.dat in the upper folder is used for both Overworld and Nether. This means that even if a player changes the level data in the /world folder for a particular save, Nether portals will still take the player to the Nether world originally generated for that save and vice versa.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • It has been talked for quite awhile, and finally is coming.
  • The devs have talked about having another trainable mob, the frosty scorpion, but ultimately said there already is one from Mo' Creatures mod and didn't want to copy them.
  • It is unknown that the frost dragon will be tamable, but MCE wants it to be.
  • The text upon entering the dimension, Bundle up so you don't get frostbyte!, the byte in frostbyte is a programming joke.
  • The frozen grass, dirt and stone have been in the mod for quite awhile, but weren't actually used. At one point, you couldn't even get it from the creative tab.
  • Instead of water and lava, this dimension generates liquid nitrogen. This is the only way to get it.
  • The generation is similar to the overworld, but with only one biome, the frost biome, and no ores or structures generate. Not even trees.
